2017 Get Outdoors PA Festival
Annual Festival Presented by Lehigh Valley Greenways Conservation Landscape partners
Hosted this year by Lehigh Valley Greenways Partner, South Whitehall Township
The Get Outdoors PA Festival presented by Lehigh Valley Greenways Conservation Landscape partners is an annual, free, public event to celebrate the many benefits of nature and variety of outdoor opportunities offered in Lehigh and Northampton counties. Attendees of all ages can enjoy outdoor activities offered throughout the Lehigh Valley and learn about the many organizations that work together to preserve and restore natural habitats, provide outdoor recreation, increase green infrastructure and offer environmental education programs.
The 2017 festival will be Saturday, July 22nd , 3:00 – 7:00pm hosted by South Whitehall Township at the athletic fields in Covered Bridge Park. There will be a variety of events, some scheduled and some ongoing, including:
- 3:30pm – a live wildlife presentation from Wildlands Conservancy
- 4:00pm, 5:00pm and 6:00pm – stream studies with Lehigh County Conservation District allowing attendees to get their feet wet (must wear closed-toe shoes) and investigate the creatures living in Jordan Creek
- 5:30pm – a covered bridge walk and talk with Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor
- ongoing archery with Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center
- ongoing chances to meet and take your photo with Smokey the Bear, Woodsy the Owl, and Della the Mule
There will also be hands-on activities offered the entire time by exhibiting Lehigh Valley Greenway partners at their event tables.
To wrap up the festival, South Whitehall Township presents a 7:00pm concert in Covered Bridge Park by the well-known, The Large Flowerheads. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the music on a summer evening!
FINDING THE FESTIVAL LOCATION: There are multiple entrances and parking lots for Covered Bridge Park. The Festival will be held on the north side of Jordan Creek at the athletic fields accessed off River Road. Approximate address is 4060 River Road, Allentown, PA. Attendees can use this google maps link to get personalized directions to the nearest parking lot. If this parking lot is full, there is a smaller lot slightly west on River Road or another parking lot on Lapp Road.
