LVG Partnership Site Visit: Black River Sanctuary
May 8, 2025 | 9am – 11am

Tour one of the region’s newest preserves during this month’s LV Greenways Partnership Site Visit.

Black River Sanctuary is a 187-acre preserve tucked away from the nearby cities of Allentown and Bethlehem, with approximately 3 miles of hiking trails. A hike to the peak of the property by way of the Horizon Trail brings the Allentown skyline into view, readily contrasting the two landscapes: one busy and growing, the other protected forever as a public nature preserve. Three distinct streams originate at the highest point here – Black River, Trout Creek, and a tributary of Saucon Creek – and trickle down the mountain through water-filtering forests to support clean water in the Lehigh Valley. Wildlands Conservancy Manager Michael Hock will guide this tour, shedding insights on the site’s significance, and management.

Registration for the event is required. (Please complete registration form below)

May 8, 2025: LVG Partnership Site Visit: Black River Sanctuary

This working hike will highlight the significance of the 187-preserve, tucked away from the nearby cities of Allentown and Bethlehem. The path is unpaved and may be somewhat rocky and steep. We will move at leisurely pace through the three miles. Restrooms are not available at this trailhead. A portable restroom should be located across the road at Franko Farm. Comfortable walking/hiking shoes are strongly encouraged.
