Wildlands Conservancy – Get Out! for Wellness: South Mountain 28th St Entrance 11/18/2023.
Although these trails are not in Wildlands’ 440-acre South Mountain Preserve, they connect to trails there. This hike takes us over and around some amazing rock formations. We’ll see old quarries and get quite close to I-78. Our route goes up South Mountain via switchbacks to a powerline with good views of south Allentown and on clear days, the Blue Ridge. The total elevation gain is about 265 feet.
This 2.5 mile hike is mostly on single track trails with many rocks, roots and fallen leaves. We’ll also walk on a sandy trail under a powerline. Dress in layers for the weather and wear sturdy, comfortable footwear. Bring hiking poles. Wildlands will have poles available too. Dogs on leash are welcome. Bring binoculars and/or camera for the views through the bare trees. No bathrooms are available.
