Wildlands Conservancy – Get Out! for Wellness: Wildlands’ Black River Sanctuary

Event Description: Wildlands Conservancy recently acquired 187 acres across the road from Franko Farm Recreation Area. The Sanctuary is in both Upper Saucon and Salisbury townships. This area provides fine views of the Lehigh Valley and is known as a stopover for migrating birds. There are smooth treadways as well as rocks and roots. We’ll climb gradually on a switchback trail to the power line. Cross in front of a pile of big rocks, cross the power line and re-enter the woods. Lots of plants and wildflowers in the open area under the power line. The elevation gain is 393 feet. We’ll descend through forest on the other side of the ridge and then ascend the south face of the power line, pass some intriguing rock formations, and back down. This hike is about 3 miles.

Wear comfortable footwear. Dress appropriately for the weather. Hiking poles strongly recommended. Wildlands will have some for you to use if you don’t have any. Dogs on leash are welcome. Portable bathrooms are across the road at Franko Farm Recreation Area.

This walk is free and is part of the Get Out! For Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network. Please register online at: https://www.wildlandspa.org/events/
