Wildlands Conservancy – Stream Team Volunteer at Trexler Nature Preserve, Mill Creek
Stream Team volunteers help maintain vegetative areas along streams (riparian buffers) and helps ensure the survival of young, native trees in the forest buffer. These vital areas improve water quality in local communities, reduce erosion and flooding concerns, and provide habitat for wildlife.
Stream Team is a series of volunteer opportunities on Fridays from June through September.
Volunteers will:
-maintain tubes placed over the trees to protect them from deer
-remove invasive vegetation
Volunteers must:
-be 16 years or older OR be accompanied by a parent/guardian if under 16
-be able to work outside for the duration of the shift, on uneven ground
-wear safe footwear and clothing that can get dirty
Working Conditions:
-Participants should be prepared for anticipated weather conditions. This event will generally be rain or shine with the exception of severe weather conditions.
-Gloves, tools, water, and snacks will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own.
–Participants should bring bug spray, sunscreen, and hats as desired to protect from the elements.
–Some locations where we will work will have restroom facilities, though others will not, so participants should plan accordingly.
