Are you a livestock owner or barn manager who wants the best for your animals and the environment? Are you interested in improving pasture conditions by increasing forage quality, reducing weeds and maintaining a dense vegetative cover? Are you interested in developing a sustainable manure management plan that benefits your farm and the environment? Are you aware all farms, as of Fall 2011, regardless of size, applying or producing manure, are required by law to have a written manure management plan?
The “Healthy Farms, Healthy Animals, Healthy Water: Planning for Sustainability” is a 2-day workshop (Saturday February 4th AND Saturday February 18th, 8:30am – 4:00pm both days) designed to help managers of equine and other livestock operations understand how the new manure management regulations affect their farm operations. The workshop will cover sessions about why Erosion and Sediment (E&S) Regulations have been established and what kind of plan is required for each operation. Sessions on pasture health, and proper procedures for manure spreading and storage will also be addressed. Two instructional classes regarding the drawing of maps for an individual farms’ plan and the completion of the manure management plan are also included in the course. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have a manure management plan for their farm that is fully compliant with PA state regulations. Participants in the workshop will also receive lunches and snacks for both sessions, a copy of “Weeds of the Northeast”, a soil testing kit, and a grazing stick, all free of charge. The workshop is held at the Best Western Lehigh Valley Hotel and Convention Center, 300 Gateway Drive, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
